Game Creation Society is a student-run organization at Carnegie Mellon University, dedicated to the art and science of making games. Composed of individuals from all across the academic spectrum, GCS provides an environment for people of various disciplines to work together on projects as they would in a real development environment. Whatever your talents are, if you are interested in making games we can find a role for you!

If you want to get involved, come to a weekly meeting, join our mailing list, or contact an officer!

Elections Tomorrow!

I would like to remind everyone that GCS officer elections will be taking place tomorrow, November 19th during the regular meeting at 4:30PM in Rashid Auditorium.

GCS officers are elected every year at the end of fall semester, and tomorrow is that day. It is probably the most important meeting of the year, so please be sure to be there. This will be your opportunity to voice any opinions about how the club is run and what can be improved.

More details will be given tomorrow, but the procedure is generally like this. During elections, candidates give a brief speech and leave the room so that everyone else can discuss. After that, everyone votes anonymously for the candidate they see as the best fit for the position. Because we're in Rashid tomorrow, everyone is encouraged to sit closer to the front to facilitate discussion.

This Friday: Talk by Chris Klug

As we mentioned during the last meeting, Chris Klug will be coming to our next meeting (Friday, November 12) as a guest speaker. Chris Klug is a game designer, creative director, and professor at the ETC. In his career, he has shipped over 4 dozen titles with his name listed in the credits as designer, so the talk will definitely be worth hearing. Even if you don't normally come to meetings, you should come check it out. This week, we will be in Rashid Auditorium (GHC 4401).

In other news, officer nominations close on Friday. If you think someone is fit for a particular position or would like to nominate yourself, please post in this thread.

Workshop Today: Quickly Producing Animations in Flash

Just a reminder that Connor will be leading a workshop today on how to user Adobe Flash to quickly generate animations for use in your games.

It will run from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm today, November 6th, 2010, in CFA 318. This is the Mac cluster on the third floor, the same room where the pixel art workshop was held.

If you have Flash on you laptop, please bring it to help ensure we have enough computers for everyone.

EA Internships

In addition to holding the contest and panel mentioned earlier, EA is having an open call for campus interview applications. If you're interested in an internship with them, you should do both of the following as soon as possible:

* Send resume directly to Elena Rente: erente[at]ea[dot]com
* Also upload resume online at: www.jobs.ea.com

Resumes should ideally be turned in no later than THIS THURSDAY (October 28), as EA needs time to review them, invite students, and create an interview schedule.

This is a great opportunity for those of you still looking for internships. You should take advantage of EA's visit, as the cut-off deadline for TartanTrak has passed.

Another contest appears!

In addition to the GCS, Mozilla, and EA contests, Microsoft also is hosting a contest called ImagineCup, and they're trying to get a lot of participation this year. There's a $6,000 prize for first place, but the game design themes are restricted to the U.N. Millennium Goals. Here's the site with info about the competition: here. We should have time to enter the spring round, so shout out on the forums or during one of our meetings if it looks interesting!
